K12 Educator Certification

Baylor’s programs to prepare teacher leaders offer a depth of experience — through extensive supervised clinical practice — and a depth of knowledge — both about pedagogy and about specific content.

BSEd in Elementary Education

Baylor's Elementary Education program prepares highly qualified teachers for work in diverse school settings in Early Childhood through Grade 6.

BSEd in Middle Grades Education

The BSEd in Middle Grades Education leads to certification to teach grades 4-8 in one of these areas: ELAR (English, Language Arts & Reading), Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies.

BSEd in Secondary Education

The Secondary Education Program prepares graduates to teach students in grades 7-12 in a specific subject matter. The Baylor program offers degrees in these areas: ELAR (English, Language Arts & Reading), Life Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, or Physical Science.

All-Level Education

The School of Education offers two degree plans in all-level education: All-Level Spanish and All-Level Special Education. All-Level Spanish is ideal for students interested in teaching at any grade level; students do not need to be already fluent in Spanish.

All-Level Special Educationi is offered through the Department of Educational Psychology with information here: Special Education

Minors and Concentrations in Education

An Education minor or concentration is for Baylor students in other Baylor academic units who want to seek teacher certification. Options are available for students majoring in Biology, Health Science Studies, History, Mathematics, or Physics/Mathematics.

ESL Supplemental

Students earning degrees in Elementary, Middle School, or Secondary education may earn a supplemental certification in English as a Second Language (ESL) at Baylor. Teachers with ESL certification are in demand in Texas public schools. No foreign language proficiency is needed.

MAT: Master of Arts in Teaching

The MAT is a fifteen-month degree that offers initial certification preparation for students with an undergraduate degree in ELAR (English, Language Arts & Reading), Life Science, Mathematics, Physical Science, Science, Social Studies, or Spanish. Significant scholarships are available for qualified applicants.
