PhD Admission Information
Application Deadline: Dec. 1
Admission to the PhD program is highly selective and is based on student professional goals, as well as a variety of backgrounds, skill sets, and dispositional factors that indicate potential success in the program.
Expectations include:
- Expressed commitment to the university-based preparation of future teachers and other educators
- Promising academic aptitude
- Successful experience teaching in an appropriate P-12 setting
- Dispositions relevant to being an ethically principled teacher educator and researcher
- Strong interpersonal and foundational communication skills (especially writing)
- Reasonable fit with available Baylor faculty resources

The following are collected during the application process:
- Letter of application stating the applicant’s professional interests and background, aspirations and qualifications
- GRE scores and other evidence of academic aptitude (writing sample or published article)
- Transcripts showing earlier graduate work and master’s degree confirmation
- Three letters of professional reference from (1) a person who has monitored the applicant’s teaching skills, (2) someone who is familiar with the applicant’s professional goals, and (3) someone who is familiar with the applicant’s academic potential, such as a former professor
- A structured interview with department faculty
- Other evidentiary documents to support the application
